You are an active participant in  IBD Partners research prioritization process! Have you ever had a question about IBD that you wish science could answer? Tell us what research is important to you!

Here, you can submit a research idea to the community, cast your votes, and discuss research ideas proposed by other members. Please make your research question as specific as possible. Other members will vote on your research idea, and we will prioritize research ideas with the most votes.

You are allowed to vote for your own proposed research idea if you want. However, you can only vote for a total of five research ideas. If you have already cast your five votes and an idea you like even more is proposed, you can change your votes at any time to reflect your current preferences.

The research team will review all submitted ideas and provide a response to you and to the community. If your idea leads to an IBD Partners Study, you will have the opportunity to serve as a patient collaborator on the research team for that study.

We encourage you to prioritize the ideas that are most important to you, even if the research team determines that your idea is not a good fit for IBD Partners. We will share ideas labeled “Not a Good Fit” with researchers outside of our network when appropriate. We want to make sure all of your votes count!

Thanks for your participation in this important platform to help the IBD research community understand what research questions are important to patients. We are passionate about finding answers to your questions!

Does medicinal marijuana have an anti-inflammatory response on IBD patients?

The numbers of IBD patients using medicinal marijuana is increasing at a rapid pace and many patients who use it feel that it improves their quality of life. We need research-based evidence to determine the underlying connection. Does it improve symptoms that make patients feel better (pain, loss of appetite, decreased stress and increased sleep), or does it actually have an anti-inflammatory effect on the gut?

What is the comparative safety and efficacy of natural supplements (vitamin D, fish oil, turmeric) commonly used in IBD versus prescription medications?

Many of us try natural supplements instead of or in addition to prescription medications in the management of IBD. Are natural supplement products more safe or effective when compared to prescription medications? Is combining natural supplements with prescription treatments more effective?

Are fecal transplants a safe and effective treatment for IBD?

Patients are experimenting with fecal transplants without the benefits of a scientific study determining effectiveness and safety. Can we pump more funds into understanding the role of microbes on IBD, and whether there is a safer way to introduce beneficial microbes into the gut?

Does Colloidal Silver have any benefit or healing impact on IBD?

I have done research and come across positive testimonies of those who have used colloidal silver and found relief/healing. I would like to know more about it from a professional standpoint. The silver was used both orally and as an enema in these testimonies.

Are parasites (like hook worms) a safe and effective treatment option for patients with IBD?

Patients are buying and self-administering parasites, claiming that they have induced remission or reduced their symptoms. I'd like to see a scientific study that determines whether the use of parasites is safe and effective. If the anecdotal evidence can be verified in a study, then we may have another treatment option for IBD. If it is not safe and effective, then people ought to know so they don't self-administer something dangerous.
